About

Welcome to OldGamr! I’m Al and this is my infrequently updated personal blog. This has been through many iterations in its almost twenty year history, starting in April 2025 with:

A lot has changed in that time, but there is little which has changed as much as the name of this blog. From Devious Tyrant to Deviant Discourse, Mushroom Festival in Hell, Azhblog, AzH-Online, Mister Sarcastic, Geek Reluctant, Daddy (not) Cool, and Sector 77. You’ll be pleased to know I have changed my underwear a few more times than I have changed the name of this.

This blog charts the changes in my life. I find it useful to occasionally look back at past lives, past loves and past mistakes. Relationships, friendships, career, children, rants, hobbies; they’re all covered over the pages of this blog. Sometimes there are gaps of a year or more, but I always seem to find my way back.

Why Oldgamr? I’m glad you asked; predominantly it’s because Oldgamer was not available with any meaningful TLD and I quite like that dropping the last vowel doesn’t make it difficult to understand what the word is supposed to be. One of the benefits of the English language, I guess.

Oh, Why Oldgamr? Okay. I guess my main/major hobby over the years has always been gaming. I was looking at this recently. The first game I can remember playing is Harrier Attack; which was released in 1984 when I was seven years old – and I’ve been gaming ever since.

And I’m old. But that’s okay as old age is a privilege denied to many.

I might occasionally talk about the games that I am playing, but that’s probably something which will feature on one of the many gaming websites I have in my portfolio. On these pages I’ll probably complain about my life and discuss the occasional significant event such as when Somebody Shot Donald or the Attacks on London. You’ll also see opinions on subjects as diverse as Unwanted dick pics on Twitter, #BlackLivesMatter and The hypocrisy of western protests at injustice.

The usual stuff.

So, buckle up, settle down, grab a beer and join me as we press play on a life well lived.
