Epic Mickey Rebrushed: A Welcomed Remaster

When Epic Mickey Rebrushed was shown, I honestly could not have been any more excited. I have already talked about my top 5 Disney games on the site, but Disney games have been a part of my life since I started playing games all the way back in the 80s. I thought that the first Epic Mickey on the Nintendo Wii was a good game that could have been great. I loved the story, the setting, and how dark it was and I have loved reading about the development of the game over the years.

However, Epic Mickey for as cool as it was and for as much style as it had, was a very unbalanced game to actually play. That is why I think Epic Mickey Rebrushed is a good thing, it has the chance to fix the problems the original had. The game has a horrific camera that made playing the game a chore in some places and it just felt a bit rough around the edges. When they announced the sequel, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of 2, I was excited and thought that it would fix all of the problems that Epic Mickey had, especially with it not being a Wii exclusive.

Unfortunately, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of 2 did not fix the problems the first game had, it just added a bunch of new ones. The story in the second game is even better than the first, it looks amazing, has great voice acting, and even some fantastic musical numbers. The gameplay though can be downright frustrating, trying to jump and grab Oswald so that you can glide is an exercise in frustration each and every time! I still liked the game and I do actually like it better than the first, but it is a hard game to like and you have to really work around all of the problems that the game has to get the best out of it.

The Nintendo 3DS game, Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion is a lot of fun, it is a 2D platformer with some neat ideas and once again, a fantastic presentation. The footage that has been shown of Epic Donald looks awesome and it really does suck that we never got to see that game be released. Anyway, back on track, Epic Mickey Rebrushed is mainly what we are here to talk about today and as I said, I could not be any more excited about this. We know that Mickey can now actually run, he has a ground pound attack as well as some other new abilities and we now have full camera control!

Of course, the presentation has been kicked up a notch and it is so great to see this dark and disturbing Disney world in full HD! For all the limitations of the Nintendo Wii, they were able to make a very stylish looking game, actually, I think that the original Epic Mickey holds up pretty well as far as the presentation goes. Epic Mickey Rebrushed is taking that style and just making it look so much better. Plus, the game has voice acting and it just looks like a whole new game to be honest with you.

As I write this, Epic Mickey Rebrushed still just has a 2024 release date, but there are many places that are taking pre-orders for the game. Everyone is going to be able to get in on this as it is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC. I just hope that there is some kind of collector’s edition as I would love for them to release this with an artbook!
