We may all still be recovering from the news regarding Naughty Dog and how around 25 developers were laid off in a bid to downsize. You may think that was more than enough and we wouldn’t be seeing any more layoffs happen any time soon. If you were, you may be shocked to know you were wrong.
It was reported that the newly revamped TellTale Games have also made layoffs. At this time we are unsure whether some of the team or most of the team have been affected. The word seemed to have gotten out when Jonah Huang, former TellTale cinematic artist went to Twitter and announced that TellTale had made the layoffs, quoted from Twitter:
A non-disclosure agreement (NDA) was also put in place preventing comments from those who were laid off the status of The Wolf Among Us 2 which is currently in development.
We can now say that TellTale games have confirmed the layoffs and have said that it was due to market conditions and have said that all in-development projects are still in the works.
If you tend to follow releases from TellTale, you will know that the last release from them was the final episode of The Expanse: A Telltale Series which was released on the 21st of September 2023. It would seem the layoffs were made before this release.
Geoff Keighley, who is the producer/presenter of the popular Game Rewards made a statement regarding the layoffs which was posted on Twitter.
You can see the statement in full below:
Due to current market conditions, we regrettably had to let some of our Telltale team go recently. We did not take this action lightly, and our commitment to storytelling and finding new ways to do so remains the same. We are grateful to everyone for their dedication along this journey, and we are working to support everyone impacted. All projects currently in development are still in production, and we have no further updates at this time.
Geoff Keighley
Of course, we do wish the best for all those who were suddenly affected by the recent layoffs within TellTale and we can only hope this is not something we are going to see on a regular occurrence.
