I got the most recent instalment from the Ween discography through the mail today. Called Shinola, I’ve had it on for the last hour or so. They seem to have moved away from recent releases which seemed to have some sort of theme to them. 12 Golden Country Greats was, can ya guess, inspired by Country Music, and White Pepper was a definite stab at mainstream by this most un-mainstream of bands.
With Shinola Ween have returned to their esoteric roots with an eclectic collection of tracks from the bluesy ‘i fell in love today’ to the industrial-esque ‘big fat fuck’ (which reminds me of some of the first stuff I heard from Ween and the Grange Hill theme tune). Hmm…
