The Xbox Gets Doomed! Doom 3 On Xbox!

While I have already talked about My Top 5 Xbox 360 Games. I was actually all in with Xbox from the original Xbox. Hey, I loved the PlayStation 2 and the Game Cube, but at the time, the Xbox had this raw power that I had never seen in a games console before. Most 3rd party games looked better on the original Xbox and we were promised ports of PC games on the Xbox that apparently could not be done on the PlayStation 2 or the Nintendo Game Cube.

Of course, Half-Life 2 is the game that comes to mind when you think of original Xbox big PC ports. As huge as Half-Life 2 was and as much as I love that game, Doom 3 on the original Xbox was just as big a game for me as Half-Life 2 was. Much like another huge original Xbox game, the Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. Doom 3 would get a better port on the next generation of video game consoles. However, there is no denying that the port of Doom 3 on that original Xbox at the time was something very special.

Not being a PC guy, I grew up playing Doom for the first time on the Super Nintendo! I of course had heard about Doom and how amazing it was and I was certainly intrigued. Yet, the Super Nintendo port did not exactly blow me away and while I liked it, it did not blow me away. So much so that when I had a PlayStation and could have gotten Doom, I passed on it. With the original Xbox, I was just eating everything up that I could, the exclusives on that console really struck with me and when I saw the trailers for Doom 3 on PC in 2004, it was the most badass looking game I had seen at that point and I was all in, only problem was, I was a console gamer, not a PC one!

It was eventually revealed that the Xbox would be getting a port of Doom in 2005. That is kind of interesting to think about, the Xbox 360 would be coming out in 2005. While the original Xbox had a relatively short life, that final year gave us Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 so that is pretty awesome. I am not here to compare the Xbox and the PC port of Doom and I am sure there will be many PC enthusiasts who scoffed at the Xbox port. I thought was blown away by this game. I remember hearing about how you had to decide if you wanted to hold a flashlight or a gun and I do not know why, but that just clicked with me and sounded so cool.

Doom 3 on Xbox looks amazing and the use of lighting is awesome and it does a great job of making you always worried that there is something hiding in the dark or around the corner. While this is a first-person shooter, it is also a bit of a horror and an exploration game as you try to fight of this demonic invasion of Mars. While I think that the recent Doom games take things to a whole new level as far as the story goes and I cannot wait to see what Doom The Dark Ages has to offer. I feel that the sci-fi/horror story that Doom 3 told was very entertaining.

I remember playing through Doom 3 in just a few sittings. Not because the game is super short, but because I loved it so much I could not put the game down! I played a ton of original Xbox and this is a game that would easily make my top Xbox games list. There were some that felt the high end PC games of that era such as Far Cry, Half-Life 2, and Doom 3 would not be able to be played on a console, but the Xbox proved that it could be done. I loved the PlayStation 2 and Game Cube, but when you were playing Doom 3 on Xbox, you knew that there was no way that either of those consoles could handle it!

If you had Doom on the original Xbox back in the day, I would love to know your thoughts on it. I would also be interested to know if you were a PC player if you felt that the port the Xbox got of Doom 3 was a downgrade in any way.
