They Think It’s All Over

…it is now.

The pain and anguish of being an England football fan continues. X more years of hurt and all that. They just didn’t have it in them and Spain looked like the better side right from the off.

Southgate came into a lot of criticism at the start of the tournament. It looked like just more of the same. No ideas, no cutting edge, nothing in the final third. But through hard work and a significant dose of luck, England managed to get into their second major final under Southgate, and only the third in their history.

Spain was just a step too far for us though. We looked wary, cautious, and Spain took advantage of that with their first goal. Substitutions helped to change the dynamic of the game and England looked like they were hungry again. The equaliser was deserved.

But Spain asserted their dominance once more. England went back to being cautious and standoffish. Their eventually winner was to be expected.

Well done Spain. Cue the recriminations and soul searching here at home. Maybe next time.
