You know, I did a top five Disney games not too long ago and I guess technically, The Simpsons could have featured on that list as they are now owned by Disney. Anyway, I will admit, there have been way more bad and average Simpsons games than great ones and to be honest with you, picking a game for the number 5 spot was kind of tough. Still, I had a few Duff bears, and some expired ham from the Kwik-E-Mart and I was able to power through it!
I love The Simpsons, while I will always have more fondness for the first ten seasons of the show, I still get a few laughs out of the modern episodes too. Today, I am looking at my favorite Simpsons games and if yours are different, be sure to let me know what they are in the comments section down below.
Number 5
The Simpsons Night of the Living Treehouse
Coming in at the bottom of my list is the Game Boy Color game, The Simpsons: Night of the Living Treehouse. This is a pretty average platformer, but the fact that it is based on the Treehouse of Terror Halloween specials is kind of cool. We get to play as different characters and I do like how they try to change the gameplay up a bit, Marge’s sections being more of top down perspective. The game actually looks pretty good with nice and bright graphics, as long as you are not playing on original hardware of course and to be fair, the gameplay while not amazing, is not bad either.
Number 4
Krusty’s Super Fun House
It was the Super Nintendo version of Krusty’s Super Fun House that I played back in the day and I found this to be a fun puzzle game. Granted, it is a reskin of an older Amiga game, but playing as Krusty and having The Simpsons lend a helping hand is fun. You play as Krusty as you try to lead these rats to a machine that will kill them. There are a ton of levels in this game and it can be quite challenging. Think of it as kind of like Lemmings, only not as good and you are trying to kill everything instead of saving it! I have also played the Sega Mega Drive version of the game and it is pretty much identical to what the SNES has to offer.
Number 3
The Simpsons Game
Now, I am cheating here. I am listing both the Nintendo DS and the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 versions of the game. To start with the Nintendo DS version is an absolute hidden gem of a game! It makes some very clever use of the touch screen, has great visuals, and even gives you a virtual pet Homer. As crazy as this sounds, I would honestly put The Simpsons Game on my top 10 Nintendo DS games of all time. The Xbox 360/PS3 version of the game may be a bit rough around the edges thanks to that camera, but this game is just so much fun! It is a huge parody of the world of gaming and you play as multiple characters, each with their own story sections and powers. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are better than the Wii, PS2, and PSP as they allow you to explore Springfield which is fun.
Number 2
The Simpsons Arcade Game
Next up we have an all time classic from Konami, after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, this is my favorite Konami arcade game. Four playable characters, amazing presentation, and the way that you have tag team moves make co-op even more fun. What The Simpsons Arcade game does better than any other 8 or 16-bit Simpsons game is actually capture the spirit of the show. It looks fantastic, has music that sounds like it is from the show and it even has some voice samples. Arcade 1Up made an awesome ¾ arcade of this that I would love to get at some point! It is a real shame that they could not have worked out a deal to bring this to the SNES and Mega Drive/Genesis back in the day!
Number 1
The Simpsons Hit & Run
I have played through The Simpsons Hit & Run on PlayStation 2, Game Cube, and Xbox! I love this game, it was such a huge hit back in the day and was seen as GTA for kids. However, I think that anyone can have a great time with this. It captured the heart of the show nearly perfectly with a crazy plot and some fantastic voice acting. You had several large areas that you were free to explore and it even let you play as different characters. This is just an absolute blast to play and I hope that EA/Disney or whoever it is, takes that HD remaster a fan is working on and gives it a proper release, this is one game I am sure everyone would love to see get the HD remaster treatment or at the very least a way to play it on modern hardware.
So there you have it, my top 5 The Simpsons Games. Some may be wondering, where is The Simpsons Tapped Out, well, I was addicted to that game a few years back and when I found myself tempted to spend money on “donuts” to progress, I knew that was when I had to check out of it!
If The Simpsons Tapped Out or any other Simpsons games are on your own personal Top 5 Simpsons Games, be sure to leave them in the comments section down below.
