Ahh, the Xbox 360! I have already shared some of my other top five games on consoles like the Dreamcast and the NES to name a couple. However, the Xbox 360 is one of my all time favorite consoles! The amount of time I spent with this machine and the amount of games I bought for it is staggering. Even though I had to send it back for repair three times before I got a Slim, I still love this console. I got mine in the summer of 2006 with Prey and Tomb Raider Legend and that was the start of my Xbox 360 journey.
Putting together my top 5 Xbox 360 games was harder than you would think. To start with there are tons of games that I love on this system, but many of the best games released for the Xbox 360 (and the PlayStation 3 actually) have been re-released in a better form on later consoles. I know that there are better versions of the games I have listed here today, but the first time I played these was on the Xbox 360 and that is the console I think of when these games come to mind.
Number 5
Halo 3
If you were around when Halo 3 launched you know what a huge deal this game was! Was it better than Halo 2? I actually feel like it was, it was an epic sci-fi story and the extra power of the Xbox 360 made me feel like I was in a movie. The campaign was a blast, probably my favorite in the entire Halo saga. However, it was the multiplayer on Xbox Live that made this game for me. I spent tons of hours playing this with friends and we always had a great time. Halo 3 was one of those games where even if you were not all that great, you would still have a great time.
Number 4
Batman Arkham City
While the remastered Return to Arkham version is better, this was a huge release for the Xbox 360 for me. I went to a local supermarket so I could pick this up at midnight and I played it until 4 AM! I already ranked the Arkham Games and this one came out on top. This is the ultimate Batman game. From the epic story with Batman having to face off against his most fearsome foes to the gameplay being tight, fun, and brutally hard hitting. This is one of the greatest comic book games of all time and it is easily one of my all time favorite Batman stories in general.
Number 3
Gears of War 3
The whole Gears of War trilogy (well four really) on the Xbox 360 is enough of a reason to own this system alone! What on the surface looks like a bunch of meathead dudes fighting monsters is far deeper than you would ever imagine. Not many games have gotten to me the way the epic and heartbreaking scene with Dom did in Gears of War 3. The story here is some of the best stuff in any sci-fi shooter. The gameplay is far more varied than people give it credit for with some epic set pieces that will blow your mind. The presentation even holds up to this day! While I like Gears of War 4 and 5, this would have served as the perfect way to say goodbye to Marcus Fenix!
Number 2
Bioshock Infinite
I enjoyed all of the Bioshock games and it blows my mind that we have never got another one! Bioshock Infinite is one of my favorite games of all time. I will admit that Rapture is a cooler setting than Columbia, but the story that was told here blew me away. I will not spoil it for those who have not played it, but the ending where it was revealed who we were and who Elizabeth was shocked the hell out of me. This is a game that has style and substance with some fun FPS gameplay, but it is the story that made this such an unforgettable experience for me.
Number 1
Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption is one of my favorite games of all time! This is a game that I have played through on four occasions which is kind of crazy when you consider how huge this game is! The story of John Marston trying to get his family back and make up for his outlaw life during the dying days of the old West is some of the best stuff I have ever experienced in a video game. The old West that the game is set in is such a fun open world with a tone of things for you to experience. It has some of the most memorable characters you will ever encounter in a video game and the Undead Nightmare DLC has to be regarded as some of the best DLC for any game!
I was going to do a few honorable mentions, but then I realized that I would probably end up listing another 20 games! This is my top 5 Xbox 360 games list, but I would love to read what games you loved on the Xbox 360 in the comments section down below.
